The Paschal Triduum is upon us: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil.
This year is one of the few times since I've been a priest (almost 18 years) when I will have presided at all three of those liturgies in the same place.
It's also the first time I have celebrated the Triduum without benefit of choir support.
If you're observing the Triduum during these days, please do me the favor of praying for my Jesuit spiritual father, Fr. Carl, who showed me almost 30 years ago how these liturgies ought to be celebrated and what can happen when they are. He introduced me to the Byzantine Liturgy of the Burial of Jesus, for example, about which I hope to write more at length (after I'm somewhat less busy...).
I found out yesterday that he has a particularly vicious cancer which surprised his oncologist, and will necessitate some aggressive and loathsome treatment.
