Detour and Presents

The Army has strange ways of doing things.

For example, those of us who get off Post with some regularity are given 'talking points' to cover when we're 'outside the gate' (for example, when SPC C and I are meeting with local religious leaders) -- which is not in itself odd -- but lately we've been told there's something we *can't* talk about.

That's what's a bit bizarre.

You see, the phrase we can't mention -- the 'Operation whose name we dare not speak', I guess -- has been all over the international media in the past few days, here, here, here, and here, just to name a few.

In fact, one can even find public mention of it, in several places, from up to seven months ago.

But we're not allowed to speak its name. So I won't.

Strange.

Blessings and peace to one and all,

Fr. Tim, SJ
