Ignatius Day 2009

Today is the Feast of St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), the religious order I belong to. Around the world there will be celebrations in Jesuit communities and institutions.

For the second year in a row, I'll be celebrating the feast far away from my brothers.

This is a sadness.

One year ago this morning, I was up at 0300 to begin the trip by car from Summer Camp to Atlanta (eight hours) in time to wait eight hours for the eight-hour flight to our layover in Europe. So much for Ignatius Day 2008.

Today we're supposed to have 'death by PowerPoint' for four hours this morning, followed by Army Warrior Tasks performed outside in the heat of the day. That could be fun....

Later, there are other tasks and computer classes and meetings to go to, so it will be a day for 'contemplatio in accione' (contemplation in action) -- one of the hallmarks of Jesuit life.

Buona festa to all my Jesuit brothers! I hope you celebrate for me while you're at it, men.

Ad maiorem Dei gloriam.

Blessings and peace to one and all,

Fr. Tim, SJ

Hey Fr. Tim -- I'm sorry we missed you before you headed off to Kosovo --it was such a short stay in California for you -- we love your blog! And we're praying for you.

I'm finding myself amongst Jesuits these days. Just finished reading "Soul of Sponsorship" relating the correspondence between Bill Wilson and Fr. Ed Dowling, writen by a Jesuit, of course. Then my used to be atheist 54 year old daughter turned Lutheran (she lives in Southern Germany) introduced me to "God of Suprises" by Gerard W. Hughes, SJ Easy to see the influence of Loyola on Wilson in the 12 Steps/Traditions... but don't tell anyone I said that!!! msg :-)

Hi Fr Tim. Vince & I were sad to miss you when you were back in town. Your blog is wonderful. You're doing much needed work with our soldiers. Thank you. We hope to take you to dinner when you return!

Beloved Brother,

I wrote a long email to you but it bounced from the old AOL addy and I've lost track of the newer one you gave me some time back. I'm awfully sorry I missed you when you were at STA, I was/am having hellacious hip pains (I am beginning to deduce the cause[s], not that it helps to stop them) and can't get around very easily. You can email me at martinpaix at live.com, I don't expect much but at least send a quick "hi" when you can just so I know your current addy. I and some allies are moving into position soon and hope to pull off the mission eventually, so to prepare a place for you. Meanwhile you are always in my prayers, if you don't hear from me it must be the interference 'cause it's not that I don't think of you.

Here's something that came to the poet during eucharistic adoration, I thought it quite Jesuit in outlook:

Lord, it's good to see you
Everywhere I look:
Every leaf, Every flower,
Every page in every book.
Every minute, Every hour,
Every step down every street,
Every creature that I meet,
And everything I do.
