Operation Rising Star -- Update

So a week ago we had the first round of "Operation Rising Star," the Army version of "American Idol" (which I've never seen). Six of us performed that night. The genre was "Rock."

I'm not a devotee of rock music, nor have I ever been.

Finding something to sing was a challenge. Further complicating things was the fact that that weekend the competition was scheduled for Saturday evening -- when I have Mass.

Fortunately, the MWR Director (whom everyone calls "Mom" -- though she's younger than yours truly) accommodated my scheduling conflict, so I performed last.

I sang "Fragile," made famous by Sting. It was subtler and more introspective than what the other guys sang (for some reason, no women signed up for the competition). And as this event is mostly a popularity contest -- and my Mustangs have all gone home, and my Aviators don't really know me yet -- very few "fans" of mine were there, compared to the hordes who were there to support the others.

I came in dead last.

Blessings and peace to one and all,
