Cathechism Class

I went back to Letnica (pronounced: Let-neetz-a) yesterday with three of the four Company Commanders from my Battalion, to visit Our Lady of the Assumption Church again.

It turned out to be a great trip. I was able to meet the Catholic priest who is the pastor of the Church of the Black Madonna, as well as some of his young parishioners who were in catechism class when we arrived.  (Click on any photo to see a larger version, as usual.)

As you can see from the photos, they're adorable. I promised them I'd send the photos back to the pastor via email, and I'm hoping to be able to print out the various portraits for each of them to give to their families.

They don't speak much English (other than hello and good-bye) and I don't (yet) speak Albanian (other than falaminderit -- thank you). But we didn't seem to mind not being able to communicate via words.

There seem to be children everywhere I've gone here so far, which cannot help but be a good sign for this war-torn region....

Blessings and peace to one and all,

Fr. Tim, SJ

We have had a tie with a church in Bosnia, we have had some correspondence back and forth and it's been interesting. I also think it's interesting that, if you didn't know, these could be the kids at our school.
